My Room. 1994-1998.
Like my pictures ‘Shakey, Slip Sliding Family’ and ‘Family and Cars’, the idea for this picture came out of the, ‘A Personal World’, project which I interpreted it as, ‘My Personal World’, in the Fine Art section of the one year BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art and Design.
I was living in a small bedsit in Chester and some years before I had taken photographs of my living room. I had the idea of exploring my living room in my personal world. So I took black and white photocopies of some of those photographs, in the process enlarging the black and white photocopies to about 9 by 6 inches. I worked into them with pastels, felt tip pens, watercolours, charcoal and chalk. I then arranged those worked into photocopies so that some became overlapped, to create a visually interesting picture that could work right side up or up side down. The whole was then carefully removed to a large thick piece of white paper and glued into place. In 1998 the composition was mounted onto a large piece of white card and a black border was drawn along the edge of the thick piece of white paper to finish off the picture.
